How the exam works
Three facts most students ask first, each from ISSA's own FAQ, checked 7 October 2026:
- ISSA's certification exam is open note, has no time limit, is not proctored and does not need to be scheduled. ISSA FAQ
- It can have up to 200 questions, depending on the course you take. ISSA FAQ
- The Personal Training exam needs at least 70 percent to pass. ISSA FAQ
There is also a proctored, closed-book option through NCCPT. Read how both exams work.
What you get
- Every glossary term in the course, 602 in all, sorted by lesson so you study only what you have covered.
- 730 scenario questions written like real gym situations, each with a reason that names the tempting wrong answer.
- Rounds that bring back the terms you miss, and space out the ones you know.
- Flashcards, a browsable glossary, and labeled pictures for the terms you need to see.
- Progress on every phone or laptop you sign in on, and an export any time.

What CPT Trainer is not
- Not the course. You still need ISSA's course and textbook. CPT Trainer drills the vocabulary and how it applies.
- Not ISSA's. It is an independent tool, built by a student, with no link to ISSA or NCCPT.
- Not a source of exam answers. It has none. It teaches the terms so you can answer the questions yourself.
